Summary of this Book...
Nameless, Kentucky, in 1969 is a community where jobs are few and poverty is a simple fact..just like the hot Appalachian breeze or the pests that can wipe out a tobacco field in days. RubyLyn Bishop is luckier than some. Maybe it has something to do with paper fortunetellers RubyLy has been making for the townsfolk, each covered with prophetic drawings. RubyLyn's predictions are just wishful thinking, not magic at all but through them she's imagining life as it could be, away from the prejudice and hardship that ripple through Nameless.
This type of Book is good for...
Those who enjoy reading about past and present prejudices within the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky.
I especially liked... | ||
The part of the story where RubyLyn goes with Rose to the Kentucky State Fair to show her tobacco plant and runs into much trouble that brews deep even away from Nameless.
I didn't like... | ||
There's nothing I did not like in this book!
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read another one of her books and am doing so now.
This Book made me feel...
More curious about the people growing up in eastern Kentucky during the late 60's.
The author of this Book...
Kim Michele Richardson
I recommend this Book because...
It is not only a story of underlying and overt racism but also a story of love and lost love.
