The first in a series of four mystery/detective books centered around the character of Irene Adler (aka “The Woman”) from the Sherlock Holmes short story “A Scandal in Bohemia.” The book is one of the more imaginative takes on Irene Adler while simultaneously being the most canonically consistent with the characters developed by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Anyone who loves a good historical period mystery, and especially if they’re a Sherlock Holmes fan.

I am not a “fanboy,” I.e., I don’t get upset with deviations on set characters when other people take a new perspective on a genre, as with the Sherlock Holmes genre. However, this is the first time I’ve read or seen a story on Irene Adler that was consistent with how her character was developed in “A Scandal in Bohemia.”

Keep it on my shelf because I have a copy signed by the author. But it also made me want to read the rest of the series.

A little sad. The kind of sad you feel when you come to the end of a really good book.

Carole Nelson Douglas was an American writer of sixty novels and many short stories. She has written in many genres, but is best known for two popular mystery series, the Irene Adler Sherlockian suspense novels and the Midnight Louie mystery series.
