Summary of this Book...
This book is about Cussy Mary and the fulgates of Kentucky. It is historical fiction but reads like a fiction novel! She is the, supposed, last of her kind as a 'blue' woman who is also works as a 'book woman' during Roosevelt's WPA program which brought books to the poor and needy of several counties in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the government's new book program.and along her treacherous route, Cussy faces doubters and danger around every corner. If Cussy wants to bring the joy of books to the complex and hardscrapple Kentuckians, she's going to have to confront hardships and prejudice as old as the Appalachians, and suspicion as deep as the holler.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who loves historical fiction and is interested in the Appalachians of Kentucky. Also, the bookwomen that their treacherous routes and prejudices that brought them to almost give up to their genetics.
I especially liked...
The part where Cussy Mae takes in a 'blue' child after her parents die.
I didn't like...
The fact that her final and only true suitor was convicted of marrying a colored.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it again! Much symbolism and historical information on the fulgates. And to read the next in the two part series.
This Book made me feel...
All my emotions.
The author of this Book...
Kim Michele Richardson
I recommend this Book because...
It is an amazing and informative book. One of the best I've ever read.
