Summary of this Book...
From the Summary of the Book: The Vance family story began with hope in postwar America. J.D.'s grandparents were "dirt poor and in love." They moved north from Kentucky's Appalachia region to Ohio in the hopes of escaping the dreadful poverty around them. They raised a middle class family and eventually one of their grandchildren would graduate from Yale Law School. From Me: That's only part of the summary in the back of book. The Vance family struggled with poverty, abuse, alcoholism, and trama that still go on. How the family dealt with such issues proves as an eye opener for how you think people live.
This type of Book is good for...
It is a modern day commentary on life in the poor regions of the nation, part memoir, part sociology. If you don't know JD Vance before you read this book, you'll get to know him much better as you read it.

Further Comments... | ||
I wanted to learn more about JD Vance so I picked up the book. It is an eye opening book. The blurb says, "A Memoir of a family and a culture in crisis," and it's true. The way society is today, it is a struggle, especially if you are poverty line. JD Vance's writing style is very conversational and very engaging. He writes with a warm tone and an honesty that will tug on the heartstrings. If anything, I'd like to Vance write a sequel or least an afterword with an update to 2024.
