Calico Joe is the talk of baseball because of this rookies talents. He is worshiped by an 11 year old boy who lives in a family that is dysfunctional. Challenges and triumphs mingle to make the characters and story something the reader will enjoy from page one to the last page. These characters find themselves in horrible situations, but eventually things change and there is reconciliation. Emotions are high during the games, family interactions, and when the unthinkable is revealed. A lot of this story focuses on interaction in family and social situations. | ||

Even for non baseball fans this book has memorable characters, scenes, and there is the "what happens next" moving the reader from sentence to the next. Anyone who enjoys unique and interesting characters will enjoy this book. | ||

The characters and interactions are captivating. The plot kept me seeking the next scene to find out what happened to these characters. | ||

The attitude and actions of one of the characters is unlikeable, but even with this the reader still has empathy and interest in what happens to the character. | ||

The author wrote a very insightful story that shows human nature at its best and at its worst. I enjoyed the writing style and it seemed as if the author was telling the story to me as we sat across from each other. | ||

There is action and adventure. While reading this story I was transported into this plot world and introduced to many interesting characters who showed me their lives, and shared with me their histories. | ||

If a reader is squeamish about certain issues related to sports injuries then perhaps they could try to skip this part of the book, or be prepared to be a bit shaken. This story is well worth working through this part of the story. | ||

The book is well rounded with characters that are like those you would meet in a thriving community. Their lives capture the reader and keep the reader wanting to get to know them better. | ||
