Summary of this Book...
"An instant New York Times bestseller! My name is Frankie Elkin, and finding missing people is what I do. From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner comes a harrowing locked-room style thriller. Frankie Elkin is an expert at finding missing people, but not even she could have anticipated this latest request—to locate the long-lost sister of a female serial killer facing execution in three weeks’ time. What readers are saying on Goodreads: "This might be the third book in the Frankie Elkin series, but it was my favorite so far." "[Lisa Gardner] is such a trusted author for me, she always delivers, and this one was fantastic." "Fast-paced, extremely well-written and incredibly entertaining." "This thriller was absolutely unputdownable." "What a rollercoaster! It's full of action, drama, and twists." Frankie Elkin is an expert at finding the missing persons that the rest of the world has forgotten, but even she couldn’t have anticipated this latest request—to locate the long-lost sister of a female serial killer facing execution in three weeks’ time. She has called herself "death," but people called her the devil. The case was sensational. Kaylee Pierson had confessed from the very beginning, waived all appeals. Despite the media’s chronicling of her tragic circumstances—the childhood spent with a violent father—no one could find sympathy for “the Beautiful Butcher” who had led eighteen men home from bars before viciously slitting their throats. Now, with only twenty-one days left to live, Pierson has finally received a lead on the whereabouts of the sister who was kidnapped over a decade ago, and she needs Frankie’s help to find her. The Beautiful Butcher’s offer: When was the last time your search ended with finding the living? Unable to resist the chance for a rescue, Frankie takes on Pierson’s request. Twelve years ago, five-year-old Leilani went missing in Hawaii. The main suspect? Pierson’s tech mogul ex-boyfriend, Sanders MacManus. Now, on a remote island in the middle of the Pacific—the site of MacManus’s latest vanity project—fresh evidence has appeared. In order to learn the truth and possibly save a young woman’s life, Frankie must go undercover at the isolated base camp. Her challenge: A dozen strangers. Countless dangerous secrets. Zero means of calling for help. And then the storm rolls in… " Above quoted material is from the Amazon's book page. My main review is in "further comments," below.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like thrillers, mysteries, fast-paced fiction, and can handle extreme violence.
I especially liked... | ||
The characters. The twists and turns and surprises. The description of the atoll. I may never get to visit one, but I felt like I did.
I didn't like... | ||
I guess this story needed the extreme violence but whew... at least she didn't go into great detail about the worst parts. Even just stating what happened was enough to give me horrible mental images.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Read something super sweet and light so I could sleep without nightmares.
This Book made me feel...
Like I was experiencing things from Frankie's perspective. All of it... the mystery, wonder, new friendships, peril, extreme peril, and all the feelings.

"About the Author Lisa Gardner, a #1 New York Times bestselling thriller novelist, began her career in food service, but after catching her hair on fire numerous times, she took the hint and focused on writing instead. A self-described research junkie, she has transformed her interest in police procedure and criminal minds into a streak of internationally acclaimed novels, published across 30 countries. Her novel, The Neighbor, won Best Hardcover Novel from the International Thriller Writers. She has also been honored for her work with animal rescue and at-risk children. An avid hiker, gardener and cribbage player, Lisa lives with her family in New England." from Amazon

Further Comments... | ||
I am definitely a fan of Lisa Gardner's work and I read the first two novels of this series and enjoyed them. So I expected to enjoy this one (and I did, 90% at least). The action parts were riveting. Her description of the atoll and wildlife and flora were great. I felt like I was right there with Frankie. I really liked the team of people Frankie was working with on the atoll. I can only imagine that such a remote locale would attract such an interesting cast of characters and require Vaughn to have such strict rules and regimented internet time etc. The story was ... totally twisted... and the Beautiful butcher beyond sick... yet.. I totally couldn't put the book down, especially once everyone was trapped on the island with at least one killer, a saboteur, a huge storm, and no communication with the outside world. There were some preachy parts but they weren't too long. Mostly, the story was riveting and Frankie is such an unusual character. I don't choose to live my life her way and don't even like alcoholic beverages, but I love her desire to help those who are ignored, in peril, and to bring closure to their loved ones. It was good that she had the chance to save a live person in this book. But things were not that simple, for sure. My only real problem with this book was what happened to the younger sister in the end.. maybe I was too tired when I got to that part but it didn't mesh with what she was doing in the previous scene. Someone who could do what she did in the previous scene... it doesn't seem to me that she would do what she did in the final part of the final scene with her sister.
