This review is for both the paperback and audiobook version (you can’t review the audiobook directly here). I’ve already read the kindle version, but SPACE TEAM is such a good series, I had to have it for my collection. In fact, I love the series so much, I participated in the kickstarter to get the author to do a comic series as well.

If you’re looking for depth of philosophy you’d get from, say, Pratchett, or the dry, sharp nuances of Adams, this isn’t what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for something similar, with an easier-on-the-brain read that doesn’t lose the overall flair of the genre, this is the series for you.

Don’t misunderstand, it’s not slapstick tomfoolery, but genuine comedy, and at times, laugh-out-loud funny.

The narration is hysterical, and the outtakes are worth the price of admission. If you’ve tried the books and were on the fence, I highly recommend the audiobook. It takes the book to a whole new level.

I still think this book has a few flaws, but like a pilot episode on television, I give some grace to a few wobbles. Mainly, the main character’s inability to be serious in the middle of the book did hinder some of the story, but once he reached his arc, it smoothed out again.

The entire cast is perfectly flawed, and the books are entertaining enough that I can’t stop reading them and usually blow through them in a few days. It can sometimes be a bit predictable, but is always entertaining, with excellent dialogue, interesting side characters, and the occasional unexpected moments of drama that can be quite touching if you’re open to them.

If you don’t end the book with at least a curious attachment to green Jell-O, I don’t know what to tell you. I’m team green all the way.
