The story covers several years with the narrator of the book recounting stories of his family history leading into the World War II where Japan and China are in conflict with one another and after it.

It depicts segments of his grandparents meeting up as well and how China was affected by the war.

It is written in the style of Magical Realism. Where fictional stories are told in a realistic way.

Literary fans who appreciate descriptive language.

The descriptions in this book are really vivid. This is writing at it best

Segments of the book feel like the equivalent of watching an anime series. One of the characters has a Seven Lotus blossom special move.

The last segment of the book felt a little chaotic and rushed but it was still a really great book overall.

I wanted to read more novels like it.

It is very well written and an entertaining story.

When I tell people I was an English major in college. They ask me what my favorite book to read. It varies from time to time but this book is one of the ones I frequently acknowledge as one of my favorites to read.

The description in this book are some of the best I have ever read. There is a scene where the narrator's grandmother is discovered by his father bleeding from a gunshot wound. The author depict the blood seeping through her dress and staining the fathers fingers so descriptive. The reader is able to visualize the scene perfectly.

This book is really an intense read with an exciting story.
