Summary of this Book...
This is what I would describe as a motivational self-help book. Elizabeth Benton talks about her lifelong struggle with her weight and how she finally beat it. She says this book is the book she wishes she had when she was trying to lose weight. But she also talks about how it can apply to other aspects of our lives. People have used it to stop smoking or drinking and to curb their spending. She talks about being in the moment, learning to be uncomfortable with feelings, being the person you want to be, not the person you've been saying you are, etc. She shares her struggles and those of her clients and helps us to stop lying to ourselves about what we are doing and face our truths to become the people we want to be. The book is about 380 pages and the audiobook is about 8 1/2 hours.
This type of Book is good for...
People who are looking to make changes in their lives, regardless if they are about food or not.
I especially liked... | ||
She isn't a social worker, but has us ask ourselves some questions that a social worker, especially one trained in Motivational Interviewing, would ask. Do your actions align with your goals? Will you regret having done (or bought) this tomorrow? What will change in your life, emotions, situation, etc. when you achieve your goal?
I didn't like... | ||
That I had this as an audiobook as I wanted to be able to highlight things. Note that I did listen to this as an audiobook through Audble, though the link is to the Kindle ebook. If I had it as an ebook, I would have worked to figure out how to to highlight in the app because I don't know.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Add it to my list of books to listen to again in the future because there was a lot of good information and I get the feeling that as we change and grow, we will get different things from this book.
This Book made me feel...
Encouraged and motivated to make changes.
I recommend this Book because...
It was an interesting and educational book. It made me feel like I could also make changes in my life. I definitely recommend it! The audiobook was also read by the author, so I think that makes that extra special.
