Summary of this Book...
I listened to the audiobook of this, rather than read it, because I wanted to hear it in Billy's own voice. I love his voice. It's so musical, so interesting, so authentic. And I was not disappointed by this offering. Apparently, it is the only true autobiography he's ever written. And, actually, it was his wife, Pamela Stephenson who wrote down all of his memories and helped him to collate them. The result is a wonderful walk through this funny man's life.

As I listened, it was just like watching one of his stand-up routines. He told it in the same manner that he tells his stories in his routines. He even laughed at some of his own jokes in the same way he does when he's doing a routine. It really was thoroughly interesting and incredibly funny.

I liked how he didn't shy away from any subjects. He speaks of how he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and prostate cancer within the same week. He acknowledges how much his wife and family have helped to keep him grounded (and sober) over the years. His love for them is clear, and it shows a wonderful, softer side to him. I love his joke where he says the doctor told him he has Parkinson's Disease, he apparently told the doctor to tell Parkinson he can keep it.

It is impossible to listen to this audiobook and not have a big smile on your face. Billy Connolly's story truly is one of survival against the odds. He had the most horrible start in life, and was abused by more than one person, but he came through. Not only came through, but thrived. And, to this day, is just about the funniest person on the planet. Excellent!
This type of Book is good for...
Fans of Billy Connolly. Anyone who wants to hear a great account of one person's survival against the odds while laughing so much their stomach muscles hurt.
I especially liked...
Billy Connolly. He is so freaking funny. This book could easily be any one of his stand-up routines.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Watch one of my Billy Connolly DVDs. It's been a while.
This Book made me feel...
Happy.
The author of this Book...
Billy Connolly. Stand up comedian and actor. Famous Scot, fantastic storyteller. What more can I say? He is a National Treasure.
I recommend this Book because...
It's funny. You learn a lot about this man and everything he's been through, but you also learn how you can own what happened to you. You don't have to forget all the crap, but you need to focus on the positives and take stock of everything you have. That's one healthy outlook.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you don't like cursing, don't listen to/read this. You will be offended.
