Summary of this Book...
This is a romantic suspense story by a New York Times bestselling author. It's the first in a series. The series is older but somehow I missed this book, even though I read most everything by this author. You can tell that this is one of her older books because the writing isn't quite as tight and there are a few dull moments. But overall, I greatly enjoyed it. The romance is between Dallas Phillips and her old flame Trey Jakes. The suspense comes in multiple forms. First and foremost, the suspicious death of Dallas' father. Then there are some wild elements, other criminal elements and a main/ longer-term mystery that I suspect will go through the rest of the series. All were resolved except for the main/ longer-term mystery.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like suspense, romance, mysteries and/or complex characters.
I especially liked... | ||
The lovable characters. I loved Dallas' strength, love of family, and willingness to be real with those she loves. Trey was almost too perfect (not for everyone, I know, but it worked for me). Trey's mom was awesome and I suspect she'll be involved in future books too. The book is set in a great community. There are good and bad characters but overall it is someplace I'd like to live and be a part of. There's a chapter with some of the most amazing women and I loved the women looking out for one another element. I loved the strong woman theme.
I didn't like... | ||
I hated the opening. It was unnecessarily vulgar and kind of cliche. If it had been another author, I probably would have stopped reading before the end of the first paragraph. I really hated that the author promoted her idea that dogs used for fighting can't be saved and all must be hunted down and killed. I believe that some can be saved because someone I know saved one (a rottweiler that weighed more than him!) and he ended up being a great family pet. I hate that people abuse other people and animals. I wish everyone (person or animal) that has been abused could have a chance at rehabilitation and healing.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the next book in the series.
This Book made me feel...
Like I was Dallas sometimes. Sometimes like I was an observer of the action. Sometimes like I was in on it.
