Summary of this Book...
This is the second book of Lisa Jewel’s I have read, and it will not be the last! I loved reading this. The disappearance of Saffyre Maddox sparks an investigation in which a creepy, odd neighbour with secrets in his past, Owen Pick, is arrested for murder. Did he do it, though? Everyone is quick to believe he did. The other main suspect is Saffyre’s ex psychiatrist who just happens to live opposite the last place Saffyre was seen alive. And he (Roan) seems to have something to hide. As does his son and his wife. Everyone does! Which is part of what keeps you guessing throughout. Saffyre is a fab character. Her voice is so clear, so honest. She really tugs at your heartstrings. You want to reach out and protect her. She comes across as very real. Similarly, Owen is drab and dreary, and exactly the kind of guy you could see abducting and murdering a girl. The difference between the two characters is huge. Saffyre is light and colourful. She is vibrant. Owen is beige. Dull, unlikeable, seedy. After following the characters and their stories, I didn’t know who I could trust, and who I couldn’t. The ending is one I did not see coming! The twist is simply fabulous. A touch of genius. I really enjoyed this book. Lisa Jewel is fast-becoming a favourite writer of mine.
