Mason Burke is let out of a Michigan prison for a crime he never committed. In the meanwhile, a war veteran, Jess Winslow, is trying to get her dog Lucy back. Lucy is Jess's companion dog because she has PTSD. Mason heads to Oregon to check up on the dog he helped train in prison, just to make sure she's okay. When he finds out that Lucy might be destroyed for attacking a law man, he knows she must've done it for a good reason. Then he meets Lucy's owner and as a team, they find a way to rescue Lucy but discover there's more to the story which involves Jess's dead husband Ty and a package he'd hidden that the bad guys are looking for.

This page turner is for anyone who enjoys fast paced stories and has a heart for dogs who have been abused.

Lucy was my favorite character, though I did enjoy the awkward budding romance between Jess and Mason. The dog, however, was the thread that bound them together.

I am looking forward to the second book in the Neah Bay series.
