So, it is possible after all, to travel to the past and stay there if it fits the main character! After I finished reading this book, I wondered what happened to Geoffrey Bell’s strict warnings to the characters in the earlier books not to make waves or change history while visiting the past. Things, however, can change, can’t they?

And they do in Indiana Belle. When the doctoral student Cameron Coelho, while preparing a dissertation, gets hold of some information and the photo of a beautiful woman, Candice Bell an ancestor of Geoffrey Bell, who was murdered in 1925. I guess, love too can time-travel, and Cameron falls for Candice and wishes to save her from that horrible end, under the guise of exploring the roaring twenties and the Prohibition. Geoffrey Bell agrees to Cameron’s trip with the understanding that he would find a cave and bring back more white and blue crystals he needs for his time-traveling undertakings.

I did like a lot the way the book reflected the 1925 with utmost realism. Especially the dramatic tri-state tornado, the formidable Ku Klux Klan meeting, and how people one would least suspect could become a member to such a destructive organization.

Once Geoffrey is in 1925, he and Candice click like magnets. In fact, once Candice finds out about the time travel, with the findings of the cave they explore, they go to 2041, which to me, seemed to be a scary setting, as a warning from the author to the readers. Will Cameron succeed in his personal quest? I think the readers should read the book to know.

The twists in the book come from inside the secondary characters as friends who are in fact foes and who the reader probably wouldn’t suspect to be foes until the end. The facts, as to customs and events, seem to be well-researched and the storytelling, the flow, and the language are direct and smooth.

It is not easy to convince someone like me who doesn’t necessarily read much science-fiction. Yet, all three books in the American Journey series, as a whole, have been enjoyable to read and I am glad I discovered a good writer while I was at it.
