Wow, I love this book. I love Hope Jahren. I read her previous book, “Lab Girl,” and was enchanted. Something about Hope being from Minnesota, a scientist, a writer, and a bit of a geek, totally resonates with me. She is smart, but funny too! And I just LOVE her voice as she reads this book! The amount of emotion she manages to cram into her voice is so beautiful to listen to. You can tell she is passionate about her subject. Her voice is begging with the reader to CARE, and she does a fabulous job getting us there. This book is all about human’s greed and our quest for more, more, more. Especially in the US, our need for more food, electricity, oil, etc is truly the driving force behind climate change. Jahren is an expert of presenting data clearly in a way the average person can understand. She uses many comparisons to show the reader the magnitude of the numbers she’s presenting. I appreciated this a lot. She also does a great job outlining the variety of factors all contributing to global climate change, making this one of the most comprehensive books on the subject I have ever read. Despite the fearful and apocalyptic tones this topic can sometimes take on, Jahren is conscious to include real solutions and hope in her message. Overall, this is a great book for anyone looking to learn more about climate change or anyone looking for great statistics to impress your friends with. | ||
