For me, this is a three-star book, because so much of it wasn't applicable to the types of foods I enjoy.

For anyone with a wider range of culinary daring, this is probably a must-have for your cast-iron collection.

The sections on selecting and caring for your cast iron are wonderfully written, dispelling many of the myths about how much you have to baby your cast iron, or how difficult it is to use. Her recommendations for purchasing are worth the cost of the book. Lighter-weight cast iron exists? Who knew? (spoiler alert: she did)

I was not daunted by the recipes. They are well organized and accessible, with clear directions and without any complicated fuss. The choices just aren't for me. Don't let that discourage you from checking the book out. For you and your family, it might be just what you're looking for - moving far beyond the traditional and giving you some true modern options.
