Summary of this Book...
After Tess accidentally stumbles on some evidence that the man she calls "Dad" is not her real father, her world is turned upside down. After a failed attempt to run away, Tess suddenly stops speaking. Finding herself alienated from her family and her best friend, she begins to confide in a toy which in her imagination has created a life of its own. As she looks everywhere for the person who might be her real Father, another drama is unfolding at school - One which Tess finds herself the centre of. She will only be able to stop it by speaking out, yet if she does then the truth will come out too, something which Tess is not sure she can face.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like to read young adult fiction - or young adults!
I especially liked...
The character of "Mr Goldfish"
I didn't like...
Most of the other characters in the book.
The author of this Book...
Has also written "My Sister Lives on the Mantlepiece", which I have read and much preferred, and also "Ketchup Clouds" - which I have not read, but am interested to.
I recommend this Book because...
It's an easy read, and there is a slightly mysterious plot line of who Tess' Dad is which keeps the story interesting. The depiction of school life I found was pretty realistic in comparison with my own experiences.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I didn't find most of the characters likeable, or that I cared much about them, especially Tess' Dad whom I just found annoying - in fact I actually wondered if there was some "emotional abuse" sub plot-line going on, but apparently not. A lot of the narrative was a bit repetitive.
