WOW, was this bad. I don't even know where to start. Let's start here: I am done with this series. If we pretend that the sub-par writing is the best element of the story, we end up with two stars. But the writing is...not good. It's not the worst writing I've seen, which is the only thing preventing me from shelving this puppy at one star. The story goes a lot like this: whiny wizard takes part in adventure that references an event that was never mentioned in the previous two books, and sounds like it was probably a better story than this one, nearly dies about 10 times, has magic, loses magic, gets magic again, and goes to a party where everyone and the kitchen sink is thrown in, along with some vampire spit and some crazy-lame three magic words. Every plot twist is so convenient or contrived the entire story is dull. The believability of the romantic component is the equivalent of handing someone a smashed tomato and telling them it's hot salsa. I can't stand the term Nevernever anymore. I can't stand the phrase "Hell's bells" anymore. I can't stand that Butcher is obsessed with women's breasts. What's the deal, dude? The descriptions of women sound like a horny teenager from the 1950's wrote them. I can't stand being so bored I start to skim. I'm done. Sorry, Dresden. I kind of hope you get stuck in the Nevernever. Either way, you're never never putting another installment on my Kindle. | ||
