This is another psychological thriller. Only this time it is by a Canadian author. One that went to the same university as I did - the University of Guelph.
Here the main character searches for the truth as she looks for the whereabouts of a local girl from a small town. Her disappearance is suspicious and the locals are all possible suspects.
Goodreads says the book raises this question - "WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU VANISH FROM YOUR LIFE AND LEAVE NO STORY BEHIND? SOMEONE WILL MAKE ONE UP FOR YOU."

The main character, Claire is on the run herself - she is running from her husband and her past secrets. The guy who was looking for her for her husband decides to hire her to find a woman much like herself. She agrees to do the job and heads for the small mining town of Blackmore asking about Shayna Fowles.
The locals are hiding a lot and they are suspicious of strangers.
She manages to rent a trailer from Charlie the local drug pusher. As she uncovers bits and pieces of Shayna's life she finds a secretive ex-husband, and overly involved doctor and distraught parents - who all seem to be hiding things.
The question remains - Did Shayna flee? Was she killed? Is it possible she’s still alive? And where is she?
As Clare uncovers the mysteries surrounding Shayna’s disappearance, she must also confront her own demons. The story moves us deeper and deeper into the labyrinth of lies and making us wonder what it is she’s really running from.

People who like reading psychological thrillers.

This story is dark and gritty, much like the characters she is writing about.

I was right there with the character as she made her way through the mystery before her.

Has crafted excellent, believable characters that take on the challenge set before them.

Stuart transports you to another part of the world - one that is darker than my own, but she does in such a way that I am willing to go with her.

I found this book and the author while attending the Eden Mills Writer's Festival last fall (2018).
I also bought the next book of the series.
