Summary of this Book...
This book, written by renowned psychiatrist Bruce Perry, tells the stories of abused children and the struggles they face to lead normal lives again. Perry writes with power and emotion and holds the reader's hand as they navigate the swamp of trauma and physical abuse together. Through the author's grace and scientific explanations, the dark themes are exposed for the reader to examine and face head on.
This type of Book is good for...
I enjoy non-fiction pieces, so anyone who prefers to read real life horror stories will find this book right up their alley. In addition, students, teachers, doctors, parents, or almost anyone can find something valuable in this book. It helped me see a dark side of the world I had previously refused to acknowledge, but only by acknowledging and learning about it, can we be motivated to act.
I especially liked...
Perry's storytelling ability. The book examines several short tales of children abused in different ways and then delves further into the neurological explanations for how the brain is changed by these experiences. It is truly fascinating.
This Book made me feel...
Conflicted, yet motivated.
I recommend this Book because...
It is important to be exposed to real life horrors to which we may normally avert our eyes because if these malicious actions continue to be allowed by bystanders who could have taken action, we have only ourselves to blame. Read and learn the signs.
