Summary of this Book...
This novel is a work of historical fiction that takes place in Paris during WW II. I had high hopes for it and bought it new on Amazon. The story is exciting, but it lags for some reason. I am not sure why. It didn't live up to the comparison to The Nightingale. I wish I could better express the frustration I felt when the story faded out to the point that I struggled to finish the book. The characters are admirable and brave, but to me the story of the aviator having two forced landings was not believable at all. I just couldn't get past that. Then the ending, although telegraphed from the start, seemed very abrupt. To have Ruby escape, with the help of a humane guard did not ring true. There is a sort of forced effort to be kind to the German people in the book that rubbed me the wrong way. I had high hopes for the book, and it was entertaining, but not riveting. Maybe it is me expecting too much, but I will try some of this author's other works and see how those go.
