Summary of this DVD... | ||
I am reading a book about films that were made in 1939 and this movie was mentioned. It stars Clark Gable and Norma SHearer. It takes an anti-war tone, which won the Pulitzer Prize, but in hindsight seems rather idiotic. Well it is called "Idiot's Delight", I guess. The best thing about this movie is Clark Gable dancing and singing to Puttin' On the Ritz. Norma Shearer is horrible as she tries to do an imitation of Greta Garbo. Her performance is so bad it's embarrassing. Burgess Meredith overacts and really the whole thing is rather pretentious and dumb. Well, I bought it so shame on me. I did enjoy Gable and his dancing. Since this film was made the same year as Gone With the Wind, I was surprised at his energy level. This is definitely Clark Gable in his prime. I wouldn't recommend the movie as its anti-war posture (not going against Hitler?) is pretty irritating and dopey given what was going on in Europe. | ||
