Summary of this Book...
This book continues on from "The Q Continuum: Q-Space" (See "The Q Continuum: Q-Space (Star Trek The Next Generation, Book 47)" ). There are two major arcs to this second book in the series. The first is Q trying make his mark on the multiverse. As a result of his own arrogance, he finds himself teamed up with a group of four omnipotent beings of the worst sort, three of whom would be recognised by any Trek fan immediately. There is Gorgan (who uses his own brand of mind control to influence people to create chaos and destruction), the mysterious entity called (*) (who feeds off the anger and hate that it creates), a being with a major God-complex who calls himself The One, and their cruel (and possibly insane) leader 0. 0 believes it to be his calling to "test" lower lifeforms. This is probably where Q gets his penchant for testing Captain Picard and his crew from. The second major plot is the end of the Tkon Empire (the Enterprise encountered one of their portals in the Next Generation episode "The Last Outpost"). The Tkon were chosen by young Q, to be tested by the quintet of demi-gods. Greg Cox does a brilliant job of taking us through the last century of life of this great empire of trillions: through trials, wars, an aging empress, and all the way to the final death throes of their sun. There are some fleeting scenes of the Enterprise and the "modern day", but this second book is very much about how big of a mess the young Q makes of the multiverse, thanks to 0 and his associates.
This type of Book is good for...
Any fan of Star Trek | ||
I especially liked... | ||
The way how it is so easy to hear the actors speaking the lines in the book. The book is also filled with numerous references to events from Star Trek; sometimes it's just a little piece of information mentioned, but other times it's something much more grandiose. Greg Cox has done a great job on his dialogue and Star Trek lore research. This is a writer who clearly knows his source material.
The author of this Book...
Greg Cox is an American writer of sci-fi. He has written a vast array of works based on successful films and TV series, from Star Trek, to Terminator, to Batman, to the Librarians. He has written sixteen Star Trek novels to date.
