Summary of this Book...
What I like about Bill O’Reilly’s writing is that he makes history fun to read, not that, I needed coercing since I like history. This author’s depth of the knowledge of history shows in every aspect of the book, although some reviewers under the influence of their political biases have said that he should leave history to historians. Well, Bill O’Reilly is a historian. He has a degree in history and has taught history. Without going too much into the events in the book, I liked that the main attention was given to the World War II in the Pacific and its origins and implications. I especially enjoyed the end notes and the maps and the photos. The minute details that took place between the heads of states and other details, which are usually left out of the average history books, were eye-opening and very interesting. Some of the battles on the islands and the Pacific Ocean were dramatized but were also supported by fighters' own words and historical data. I liked very much the parts about General MacArthur. The authors Bill O’Reilly and Dugard have shown all characters without prejudice and with their flaws and strengths. I think this is the utmost I can expect from any history writer, and I believe I have grown richer in knowledge for reading this book.
