Summary of this Book...
This is the third book in a trilogy. I have to say I stuck with it so that means on one level I enjoyed the characters and the fact that the story originated in Ireland. I did not find it believable that a woman who was all business in the first two books, suddenly becomes a renowned artist in the third one. The books span the first half of the 20th Century. Although Ellie Hogan cannot have children, she miraculously winds up with two sons to raise, who she is not related to. Though not believable, the story is entertaining. When there is any unpleasantness, the friction between characters is swept aside and not confronted. I found this a bit frustrating in the first book and in this one. Ellie never properly confronts her first husband and she doesn't take up for herself with Suri, her friend in the Japanese interment camp in California. It took me several months to read all three books because I didn't find them to be very riveting. It was just something I would pick up when there was nothing to be watched on Netflix or, frankly, when I was sleepy. This author does have a gift for presenting interesting characters. Where she needs to develop more is in using those characters effectively in the story as it progresses. I suspect she will get better with time and experience. This wasn't a waste of time, just not what I'd hoped for.
