This is the first book in a trilogy written by and Irish writer. It is about a woman who comes to America in the 1920's to earn enough money so her husband, back in Ireland, can have an operation.

She falls in love with America, but ends up duty bound to go home. She loves her husband, but he doesn't love her enough to do what she wants to do.

I will read on in the series as I like the character of Ellie so far although I didn't understand why she didn't demand an explanation when her husband stood her up at Ellis Island toward the end of the book.
