Summary of this Book...
This is a historical novel about characters who really existed. A military guy in England in the late 1800's is attracted to a young heiress. She is a brilliant photographer and a very smart person. While he is falling for her, this same guy gets swept off his feet by Empress Elizabeth (Sisi) of Austria. He has an affair with her that seems like it should ruin his chances with the heiress. I ended up not liking the guy at all. He's too weak and led around by the nose too much by royalty. So, the book didn't work for me. It was well written, but I never liked the character of Bay Middleton enough to care what happened to him. I liked Charlotte Baird and her photographer friend, Caspar and all the people that encouraged her to pursue her dreams. I didn't like that she ended up with such a shallow, spineless man, though.
Further Comments... | ||
This was a long book and well written. I just ended up not liking one of the main characters. I wish there had been a better ending for Charlotte than getting her man. He didn't seem like much of a prize to me at the end.
