Summary of this Book...
This was likely one of the first self-help books I ever read. It was written in 1960 by a plastic surgeon, Maxwell Maltz. He likens our psyches to servo-mechanisms used in the area of cybernetics. The servo-mechanisms guide machine tools to accomplish things. Our minds work in a similar fashion. When we understand the way our mind works, we can work with it to make our lives more enjoyable and successful. How did a plastic surgeon get involved in a psychological pursuit? As he changed folks' appearances, he often did not see the expected change in their self-image. His curiosity led him to explore this apparent disparity. His explorations led to Psycho-Cybernetics. The book was written many years ago but the principles still apply. We need to fine tune our guidance system so it is taking us where we want to go.
