This is the third season of the hit TV show. I have been watching it (and am watching it again) on Amazon Prime.

This is the season where Andy Sipowicz Jr. is killed and Andy Sr. has to deal with that loss and its aftermath. In addition, because of a charge of racism, Andy is removed from a case and all of this ends up with him drinking again. I do not like the part where he turns to alcohol to solve problems.

Dennis Franz does a great job portraying Andy and Jimmy Smits is wonderful as his partner, Bobby Simone. They are the best pairing in the show and the longest or almost the longest.

Bobby helps Andy see what he needs to do to honor his son and guides him to be more tolerant in his behavior, if not his heart.

Andy and Sylvia have baby Theo just as Andy Jr. is killed, so Sylvia has to cope with Andy drinking and she rightly throws him out. Andy has to go pretty far down to come back stronger for his family and for himself.

This is one of my all time favorite shows. I enjoyed watching it again after more than 20 years of not seeing it. It is just as relevant today in terms of urban crime and pressures in race relations as it was in the 1990's. Time moves on, but some things don't really change, they just come back with new people acting their parts.
