Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is Season One, Volume one, which consists of 8 episodes based on the best selling book. We watched it on Netflix DVD (mail) and have not read the books before watching. It is the story of British Claire Randall, who was a nurse in WWII. After the war, she and her husband go on a honeymoon to Scotland where she encounters some Druid Stones and legends. She travels back in time to the 1700's and is saved by a Scottish Clan from an evil sadistic British Officer (a an early ancestor of her husband's, played by the same actor who plays her 1940's husband.) She has medical knowledge that she uses and this is quite helpful to the Clan of the MacKenzies. They save her again from the British Officer (Captain Randall) and she is forced to marry young Jamie Frazier (a MacKenzie relative) in order to be saved from the British fiend.
I especially liked... | ||
the woman who plays Claire. She is quite beautiful in a Lady Mary sort of way and does not look like every other actress who roams Hollywood. Just a natural beauty that is quite engaging and fetching.
I didn't like... | ||
the horrific violence that is directed at Claire by Captain Randall. It was difficult to watch this sadist at his work. The violence really bothered me.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
see the second part of this season, which will be 8 more episodes I believe.
I recommend this DVD because...
it is an intriguing idea. It isn't really science fiction, despite the time travel element. It is more of a historical romance. I like the complication that the time travel creates for Claire, who finds she is falling in love with Jamie. Since her husband is played by the same actor as the one who plays Captain Randall, it will be interesting to see her reaction if she ever returns to the 20th century.
Further Comments... | ||
The musical theme and the music used within this production is beautiful and Celtic. I love the music at the beginning.
