Summary of this Book...
In the final year of school, recently orphaned 18 year old Rosie strikes up an unlikely friendship with a group of girls from her year who decide to spend the summer on a vacation in Italy. There she meets Enzo, a young Italian man from a traditional, local, olive grove owning family in a cafe - bar in the village and despite their different backgrounds, they strike up a holiday romance. The story follows both Rosie and Enzo and their friends over the years that follow - the ups and downs, different jobs, family tragedies and successes yet through it all, they never quite forget one another and that relationship that never came to be....
This type of Book is good for...
A holiday read, something easy and lighthearted to read on a train or a beach! People who like to read stories about holidays or fans of romantic stories.
I especially liked... | ||
The "holiday" element of the book - I liked reading about the Italian landscapes and villages, the dishes they eat etc. I thought the friendships portrayed between Rosie and the other girls was quite realistic and I enjoyed reading about them and how their lives changed.
I didn't like... | ||
I thought the "love" story was rather far fetched as it did not seem realistic to me that a brief holiday romance at age 18 would be so prominent in years and years to come! (but maybe I am cynical....) The book is written from the alternating point of view of both Rosie and Enzo and I found Enzo's side of the story quite slow to become interested in at first.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Go on holiday to Italy!!!
This Book made me feel...
Glad I don't want a boyfriend
The author of this Book...
has written many other novels apparently, although I have not read any.
I recommend this Book because...
It is an easy read with lots of characters and description and a holiday theme.
