Summary of this DVD...
This is a screwball comedy made in 1936. I love screwball comedies. A long time ago I watched a movie and didn't get to see the end. With Amazon, I can see just about any movie and I had always thought this was the one, but it turns out that it wasn't.

It is pretty funny though. It is the story of this spinster who lives with her two aunts in a small town named after their family. The movie starts with a wild romance novel being banned in the city.

It turns out the spinster (Irene Dunne) is the one who wrote the book under a pseudonym of Caroline Adams. Her real name is Theodora Lynn.

She goes to NY to meet with her publisher and meets her illustrator, played by Melvyn Douglas. He decides to follow her back home and find out about her real life. He teams up with a dog named Jake to make her life difficult and comedy ensues.

He tries to force her to come out and be herself, all the while he is keeping his own secret life and pretending. She exposes his own hypocrisy.

It is really funny how shocking the ladies find the book, but most of them can't wait to read it. Very illicit fun! lol

I enjoyed the movie a lot even though it isn't the one I'm looking for. The search continues.
I especially liked...
Irene Dunne and Melvyn Douglas together. I only know him as an old guy, so his being so devilish is quite a revelation. He's pretty cute there with his dog companion.
I recommend this DVD because...
if you like screwball comedies of the 1930's this is a pretty funny and imaginative commentary on the world of "literature" at that time.
