Assassin's Creed Rogue is the latest (and hopefully last) iteration of the franchise to appear on last gen consoles. Rogue follows the tale of Shay Patrick Cormac, a young Assassin who, through a devastating event, betrayed the Brotherhood. He joins forces with the Templars and begins to hunt down his former brothers and sisters against the backdrop of The Seven Years War. The story of this game serves as a prequel to Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed Unity, as well as a sequel to Black Flag. Throughout the story, the player will encounter many beloved characters from the aforementioned games, both as friends and foes.

This story is the best Assassin's Creed story released as of the time of this review. Shay faces a conflict different from any other previous lead. His struggles are far more relate-able than those of Altair, Connor, and Arno. One of this game's core mechanics is fighting Assassins and having what you did to them in past games, be done to you as a Templar. This helps keep the somewhat monotonous gameplay fresh.

This game has the same animations, combat, enemy types (excluding the Assassins), UI, and weapons as Black Flag.

Rogue made me feel empathy for Shay as he was forced to kill those that he once called friend.

It features the best story in Assassin's Creed, in my opinion.

It is essentially just Black Flag with a new skin on it.

In conclusion, only buy this game if you are a hardcore Assassin's Creed fan that wants to see the story of the Kenway saga brought to a satisfying conclusion. If you're just a casual fan of the series, wait for the price to drop on this one.
