Summary of this Book...
In this novel, the siblings Beverley and Felix, because their father travels on business, go to live on a farm with their Aunt Janet and her husband Alec King, and their cousins Dan, Felicity and Cecily King, plus a neighbor, Sara Ray. Another cousin Sara Stanley also joins the group, who is lovingly called, The Story Girl. The story girl is famous because no one can tell fascinating stories and make them come alive in the listeners’ minds like she does. She is also a nice person who protects the hired boy Peter Craig, who also joins the teens' group. The escapades of the group are told through the viewpoint of Beverley King, and the setting is Carlisle, on Prince Edward Island. The plot lacks a general story arc, but it is filled with delightful childhood incidents. It is the characterization of a group of early teens, generally good children who enjoy the tales told by the story girl. Greek Myths, fairy tales, legends, fables, and local gossipy stories are in Sara Stanley’s reach, and she even makes the recitation of the multiplication table sound interesting. As in her other books, the author’s usage of language and mastery of the writing craft is amazing.
I especially liked... | ||
the sweetness of the young teens and how the author connected each incident, even without a major story arc.
