Summary of this Book...
This science fiction novel, Fluency is authored by Jennifer Foehner Wells. What struck me most was the beginning sounded like the conclusion. Astronauts are boarding an alien space vessel that was discovered in 1960's.
The ship is alone and drifting. No one knows if the ship is abandoned or not.
The main protagonist is Dr. Jane Holloway, a linguistic specialist and it's her mission to connect with any alien presence.
This type of Book is good for...
The book itself is 381 pages, small enough to be readable on an e-device.
I especially liked...
There's always the consideration of is the narrator reliable or not? As told from Dr. Holloway's POV, I was totally convinced by her assessment. As the plot twists and turns, with the 'alien' reluctantly divulging more information, the reader doesn't know who to believe.
I didn't like...
The characters are somewhat predictable in that they cling to their roles. The "budding romance" is less than believable.
Fluency seemed more like a prequel than a fleshed out novel. For a satisfied feeling, the other books in the series would have to be read.
Subsequent novels are underway but not available as of this date.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
I assumed this book had a sequel and was prepared to read on. I'll have to wait.
The n/a of this Book...
Jennifer Foehner Wells
I recommend this Book because...
If you're a science fiction reader like me, the book is definitely worth the read. It's not the best novel I've read, but it is better than many others.
Further Comments...
The astronauts are challenged several times by threatening aliens, and I believed what the ongoing narrative was relating. Nothing in this book is what it seems. I liked the believable science in this book, especially the restoration devices that heal wounds, but part of the enjoyment was the terror of imagining being trapped inside a unit.
