Summary of this Book...
The 1960's was a time of turbulence, war and the movement toward social justice in America. With all that brewing in the country, the summer of 1969 was the time of one of the most infamous crimes in American History. A short, unwashed, weasel of an ex-con, named Manson got a bunch of stupid psychopathic young people to kill for him. They went in the night and killed five people, including Sharon Tate. The next night they killed a man and his wife for no reason. He (Manson) used a Beatles song as his motivating force. How dopey does that sound today? He tried to make his crimes appear as if they were committed by black people in order to provoke a race war that he called, "helter skelter". Charles Manson was and is a big racist, so it was pretty easy to figure him out when someone with a brain looked at the evidence. This is the story of the family of one of the victims of that heinous crime committed on August 9, 1969. I will focus on Sharon Tate and her family in my review here and not on that other family that lived in the Dessert outside L.A. The Tate family was torn apart by the murder of their 26 year old daughter and sister. This is the story of what became of them and how some of them fought bravely (until their untimely deaths) to keep the Manson "Family" locked up. God rest all their souls. Sharon Tate starred in The Valley of the Dolls movie shortly before she died. She was eight months pregnant and married to another sort of nut, Roman Polanski, who was in Europe at the time of the killings. I hope the people who did the horrific act (they killed them for no reason other than they were there and Manson told them to do it) die in prison. Their death sentences were commuted by a crazy judge named Rose Bird in the 1970's. They should have all been put to death, in my opinion. I think that now, Susan Atkins is the only one who has died.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone interested in how slowly the justice system works in this country and anyone who has doubts about how dangerous this "family" led by Manson really was.
I especially liked... | ||
Mr. Tate and his reaction, which was to stalk and confront the people who killed his daughter and her friend, Jay Sebring, hairdresser to the stars and former fiance of Sharon Tate, along with Abigail Folger (Folger coffee heiress), Voytek Frykowski and Steve Parent. What were these people doing right before they were killed? Sitting in bed reading, sleeping, talking. And the killing was not quick and was not a nice thing to read about when it comes to an eight months pregnant movie star begging for her baby's life.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
read something completely different.
The author of this Book...
is a close associate of the Tates and Sharon Tate's niece, Brie. Sharon Tates sister, Patti, and both her parents died fairly young, but Brie continues the fight to keep the Manson gang behind bars.
I recommend this Book because...
this is a great book. There is no getting around that. I admire all the Tates portrayed here for their strength and courage in the face of unbearable grief and loss. I hope the ones that have passed are with their beautiful Sharon and her baby in a better place.
Further Comments... | ||
This was a great book and a quick read. It was one that another one I read led to. I was curious and the price was right so I downloaded it on my Kindle. I wasn't expecting to find a great book - one that moved me in a way that even Helter Skelter by Vince Bugliosi could not. This is the story of the real victims of the horror on Cielo Drive.
