Summary of this DVD... | ||
This movie is part of my quest to see all of Jean Harlow's work. This movie was made in 1932 and co-stars Walter Huston (grandpa of Anjelica) and Wallace Ford. The story is about corruption and gangsters in a New York like city and how they worm their way in to control everything. Harlow plays a bad girl who has a romance with the Police Chief's brother. She uses and abuses him and ridicules him in the end. To see Harlow at the age of 20 is remarkable. When she is on the screen, it is like no one else is. There is a lot of hamming it up and overacting in this. The big shootout at the end is kind of melodramatic, but I bet at the time in 1932 it was very shocking. The movie's story is sort of dumb, but I had fun watching Harlow strut her stuff.
I recommend this DVD because...
if you like Harlow, like I do, it is interesting to see how her comedic talents developed over time. This is an early effort and not one of her best, but she does steal the attention from all the other actors.
