Summary of this Book...
Just a short note about what's "inside" the book -- a warm, quiet story of a lady describing shells and how they relate to life . The book is a paperback, easy to read. It has gentle, line drawn illustrations of shells, a subtle reminder of the sea. She talks about women, about church, and about her life in Connecticut and other things. You have to read it to really experience it. Excellent book.
This type of Book is good for...
This book is definitely for relaxation, for reflection and for really questioning what's important in life and what are priorities. For those seeking peace, the book brings bits of it here and there in its' quietness and its' subtle voyages to the sea through the lives of the shells.
I especially liked... | ||
What I liked about the book is that though it was written so long ago, it gives one of the best messages that a woman can give to herself, that some solitude (not aloneness) is necessary in one's life in order to discover or to rediscover peace. For those who hurry round and who might be running around like chickens without heads, this book will bring pause, and pause is what is needed when peace is sought. Those living in huge bustling cities can take this book as a prescription for redirection, for re-examining one's purpose in life and for , yes, indeed, a prescription for peace, peace right where you are.
I didn't like... | ||
The only way this book can be improved upon is if the author included beautiful, colorful photographs of the ocean and of the shells. Other than that this is the perfect book and a perfect gift for anyone.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Yes, of course, I wanted to take a trip to the ocean and walk along the sand collecting sea shells. But I wanted also to find a space for myself, a quiet space, a space of no interruptions. I read this book over 14 years ago, in a city that was overrun with 24/7 action and demands.
This Book made me feel...
And so, yes, a beautiful gift of quiet time in the midst of heavy traffic and thousands of city people running in their own directions. The book gave the sea to me in a way that I have never had the sea.
The author of this Book...
Anne Morrow Lindbergh is the author of GIFT FROM THE SEA.
I recommend this Book because...
I recommend this book because it quietly teaches lessons that our school classes always miss. Loved the book because it is paperback and I love paperbacks, so easily carried anywhere and so convenient to have around.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you are looking for action or excitement of the negative kind, this is not the book for you. Prepared to be thrown into a peaceful kind of (almost) boredom if you are of the "high executive I need action now" type. You know I recommend this book, get out of your comfort zone and go get this book.
Further Comments... | ||
I wrote this review by answering the questions supplied. So, what you see is what you get. There's no other way this can be said. This book impressed me. It was not what I expected and this is a good thing. A delightful surprise , and tons of shells , an added plus.. Take your own walk on the beach and see what I mean and feel what the author feels.
