This is Book 1 of A Song of Ice and Fire, in other words, Book 1 of the books the series, Game of Thrones is based on.

I read this after having watched the series. I was a little confused as to characters so I figured I'd check out the books and see if that helped me. I will now watch Season One again and see if this helps me.

Basically this is about a decent family (The Starks) minding their own business in a place called Winterfell when the King and his in-laws Lannisters come to call. The King wants Mr. Stark (Ned) to be his hand, which is someone who makes decisions for the king when he is out of town or indisposed. It is like the King's Vice President, only with actual duties.

Well, the King's in-laws are a nasty lot and they cause a lot ot trouble and nothing is ever the same for the Stark Family. I won't give more away then that.

anyone who wants to understand the characters better. I am a really slow reader, but I enjoyed it.

I did especially like the fact that the chapters are titled with character names and they are short, which makes for easy reading.

the fact that I now know that the story has two more books to be issued so it is unfinished. I have a feeling it will take a long time to find out what happens.

watch Season 1 again to see what is what and to see what I missed.

it will give you an idea of what the series is about. It is well written and the characters are vividly portrayed. I don't think I would have read the book without having seen the series.

I am not sure about what I will do as far as reading on goes. I may delay it until I know another book (Book 6, I believe) is issued.

I don't want to be strung along for ten years here.
