Summary of this Book...
This book takes a historical view of the writing of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The writer puts forth her thesis on what is behind the fiction and the life at the time of the Fitzgeralds in Long Island and later, in Europe.

There was an unsolved murder on Long Island of two people in 1922, and the author ties this to the plot of Gatsby very convincingly.

She does a good job with her research and makes plausible arguments for her points of assertion. This reads like a college thesis, but a very well-investigated one.

I was sad to read the ending of Fitzgerald's life set out in such a stark way, but it all goes with his fiction.

The book was interesting, but not as much of a page turner as I'd hoped for.

Still, it was interesting and I learned a lot about a brilliant author that I didn't already know. So, that is a good thing.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone interested in F. Scott Fitzgerald and the writing of The Great Gatsby.
I didn't like...
when the author tends to get a bit judgmental and insert herself into weighing in on the times. It is obvious she is writing now and not a party to or an endorser of some of the horrible and crass stuff going on in the 1920's so I don't think she needs to spell that out as much as she does.
The author of this Book...
did a fine job with her research. I hope someday she gets answers to all of her questions, but she made her points and she backed them up.
I recommend this Book because...
if you are really interested in Fitzgerald and the writing of The Great Gatsby, this book will keep your interest. If you are only mildy into it, it's not for you.
