Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is a very old early 1930's movie that stars Wallace Beery, Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. Beery plays this guy who works in the slaughterhouse, so it starts with cows being led to imminent demises, which is sad. But he becomes the head of the crime mob by killing the current head of the mob (played by Ralph Bellamy). His name is Scorpio, but they call him by the nickname, "Slaughterhouse". To get him arrested, Clark Gable, a reporter teams up with these six guys who wear masks, called the secret six. They team up and bring Federal charges against Slaughterhouse after he causes the death of a reporter named Hank, who Harlow's character loves. Although Anne (Harlow's character) is in love with Hank, she becomes Slaughterhouse's gal, but she testifies against him in court after he kills Hank. It is a complicated plot with a lot of violence and pre code stuff. It was pretty good. The funniest thing is Clark Gable, without his mustache as a quick talking reporter. He and Harlow have a lot of funny interaction in this movie. The masks are pretty dumb, though.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who is interested in Gable and Harlow's real early stuff.
I especially liked... | ||
Harlow and Gable. | ||
I didn't like... | ||
Louis Stone. He is the same in every movie.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
is a good cast. Beery and Gable and Harlow worked together again in quite a few movies.
I recommend this DVD because...
if you like screwball comedies, Gable has some funny stuff in this one. Harlow is more serious, but Gable and the guys with the masks is kind of funny because he has a hard time keeping a straight face.
Further Comments... | ||
I liked it because the people in it interested me. That mask thing was really peculiar because you could still tell who the guys were with those little masks that didn't really cover much of their faces.
