This is the story of George VI, the father of the current Queen Elizabeth. He was a brother of the heir to the throne and had a terrible stammer. When his brother (Edward) abdicated in order to marry a twice divorced American woman, he ascended to the throne.

George VI (known as Bertie to his family) had to learn how to speak to his people in the time when Hitler was rising to power in Germany and England was on the verge of war. He employed a speech therapist of sorts who helped him find his voice and find out what a truel leader he really was.

anyone who wonders why the monarchy is revered in England. Sometimes with Prince Charles being such an ass, it is hard to understand. His grandfather was quite an admirable character.

Geoffrey Rush as Lionel Logue, the commonsense speech therapist.

watch it again sometime. It is definitely a DVD keeper as it is that fine a film. It is an inspiring story.

is excellent starting with Colin Firth, Helena Bonham-Carter and on to Geoffrey Rush. All are excellent!

it is an interesting story that inspires admiration for the monarchy in England. They were not all simpletons and boobs.
