Jack Reacher makes his way to his former military outpost to meet the new commander, Susan Turner. He has only spoken to her on the phone but this loner, with no possessions or commitments, decides he will show up and take her to dinner. He arrives to find she has been put in jail and he has two cases pending against him. It's a zig-zag journey to find the truth and clear both his and Turner's name.

This is the 18th book in the Jack Reacher series. It is typical of the character to fight multiple men and beat them all. I liked the idea that Susan Turner kept up with him. The relationship between the two was a wonderful thing to read. It was just enough connection without making these particular characters unbelievable by putting them in too romantic a light.

I always look forward to the next Jack Reacher book. He is such a solid character and the author doesn't stray from the traits he originally gave him. You can depend on the story to take you through the action knowing the character will stay true to himself.

This book had all the twists and turns to make you believe there is no way the two characters can get out of their situations. There is a lot of action, but it's balanced with better paced scenes.

I never would have picked up a book with a military theme on my own, but was recommended the first in this series, The Killing Floor, many years ago by a friend. I've looked forward to each next book in this series since then.
