Summary of this Book...
A musical virtuoso, Valentine Windham is set adrift when he loses the use of his left hand. What is he without his music? He decides to keep himself busy renovating a property he won in a card game. There he meets Ellen. Can they heal each other, inside, where it really matters?
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who enjoys regency romance, and particularly fans of Grace Burrowes as her other characters appear as supporting characters in this novel.
I especially liked... | ||
The description of Val's music, both inside his head and the music he created, was astounding. Beautiful. I think it was truly more magical to read than it would have been to hear. Grace Burrowes has a real gift for description.
I didn't like... | ||
Ellen describes herself in a way that we find out later is clearly not true. I don't believe that she believed it. I wish the author had handled her past and her fears differently. We know from earlier books in the series that Val pretends to be gay so that his father won't push him for a bride. He affects very camp, effeminate mannerisms. Those weren't evident in this book at any time, nor any mention of them made. I would have like to have seen some comment on the lack of them, if nothing else.
When I finished n/a this Book I wanted to...
Continue reading more of Grace Burrowes' books. Her characters are outstanding, particularly the men.
This Book made me feel...
sad, happy and awed. I actually had tears in my eyes at one point - I am astonished that the author had the skill to achieve that. My highest compliments to her.
I recommend this Book because...
it touched my emotions, it kept me enthralled, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Further Comments... | ||
This book can be read as a stand-alone book, but you'll get ever so much more out of it if you read the whole series in order. The characters appear and reappear in various books throughout the series.
