Summary of this Book...
This book is about a fifteen year old that begins keeping a diary, where she jots down her thoughts and experiences as they happen. The topics are many, from boys, to self image, etc. At a party after her family and her move, she unknowingly takes LSD which is the tip of the iceberg in a long and painful addiction to multitudes of drugs. Spiraling out of control, the narrator, anonymous, tells her story of drugs, sex, alcohol, rape, and dealing. After several struggles with drying out, she's met with hostility from her former drug friends, forced to take drugs against her will. Near the end, especially, it's quite disturbing as the author slowly loses her grip on reality in parts. This book is very controversial in its origins because it is written by Anonymous, and the ending is not for the squeamish.
This type of Book is good for...
I think this book is a good insight to what hardcore drug addiction will do to a person, and how addiction doesn't just affect one person, but many. This book shows a lot of insight not just to the desperation of its anonymous author, but her friends, dealers, pimps, and family.
I especially liked...
What I liked best about this book was that it was written from a typical teenager's point of view. Some of the things she writes is obnoxious, but true. I liked that it showed the progression from her normal and healthy life, to her spiral out of control, back to getting clean, and the end, albeit tragic.
I didn't like...
There were some inconsistencies that many skeptic people have scrutinized. It was also was quite unbelievable in many spots.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
When I finished this book I wanted to read Jay's Journal, another book of the same controversy and the same alleged editor.
This Book made me feel...
This book made me feel disturbed, especially the ending.
The author of this Book...
The author of this book is supposedly Anonymous, but there is a lot of controversy as to whether it was made up or not by its editor, Beatrice Sparks.
Further Comments...
Some of the things she writes is obnoxious, but true. I liked that it showed the progression from her normal and healthy life, to her spiral out of control, back to getting clean, and the end, albeit tragic. This book shows a lot of insight not just to the desperation of its anonymous author, but her friends, dealers, pimps, and family, but some of it is really questionable.
