Summary of this Book...
One night in rural America in the late 1960's, an elderly woman, Martha, receives a visit from a strange young couple who have, it seems, escaped from the local mental institution. The police follow hot on their heels and capture the girl, whilst the young man vanishes in to the night. Everything would have continued as normal for Martha except the couple have left behind a tiny baby and implored the woman to keep her safe! Across states and decades this book follows the lives of Martha and the baby, of the young man and the young woman and of the people they enounter - both good and bad-along the way, none of them ever forgetting that fateful night......
This type of Book is good for...
A holiday or beach read.
I especially liked... | ||
The authors writing style which I found incredibly engaging and made me feel involved in the story. The characters were well formed and felt realistic and the story was told in such a way that you could never quite tell what would unfold in the next chapter - which made me want to keep reading it. I also liked the ending to the book.
I recommend this Book because...
It is a great read, both for the story and it is also an enlightning (and sometimes shocking) insight in to the world of institutions in the middle of the 20th century.
