Summary of this Book...
A lighthouse keeper named Tom lives on an Isolated Island called Janus Rock. Having married a local mainland girl, they settle in to the isolated life. After she has 2 miscarriages and one stillbirth, a boat washes up on the island in a storm. In the boat is a dead man and a living baby. Despite her husband's misgivings the wife, (Isabel) convinces him to bury the dead man and adopt the child as their own - they live an isolated life only seeing people from the mainland every few months or so. Since Isabel was pregnant and just had the stillbirth they tell her family and their friends that the baby is theirs and keep the death of the man a secret. They raise the baby as their own until a trip to mainland brings a startling revelation about the identity of the man and the baby.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who enjoys a good story. Normally I do not read if I am not into a book by 50 pages. This was slow going at first but at about halfway I could not put it down. It left me in tears at the end.
I especially liked... | ||
the husband and all that he went through to protect those that he loved. He is really quite a noble soul.
I didn't like... | ||
the wife and her selfish ways, but she is out of her mind with grief for a lot of the time.
This Book made me feel...
so sad at the end. | ||
The author of this Book...
is writing their first book here. It is outstanding storytelling. I rarely read beyond 50 pages if not hooked, but a friend told me to keep reading. I am glad that I did.
I recommend this Book because...
it is a great story about the power of love to hurt and destroy, but also the power of love to forgive and heal.
