Summary of this Book...
This is my favorite book by Dorothea Benton Frank. It is told in first person by two characters, mother (Annie) and daughter (Jackie). Jackie is an Army nurse, called home from Afghanistan when her Fireman Husband is killed in a fire. She has to come home to take care of her ten year old son, Charlie. They grieve at home in New York for a couple of months and then they go home to Sullivan's Island, near Charleston, South Carolina to spend the summer. The healing begings and they are helped by having extended family around them. A subplot involves Annie and her husband, Buster, who have been separated for 11 years, but not divorced. Taking care of Jackie and Charlie forces them to work together again and they see things about their relationship they didn't see before. This is a book about healing after a devastating loss. I loved it.
