Theseus Cassio Lowood- the boy that goes by Cas because his real name is too weird. Cas Lowood- the boy who kills the dead. Redundant, yes? Maybe he doesn’t kill them, per say. Maybe he frees them. Maybe he sends them to hell. He honestly doesn’t know. He does know that out of all the spirits he gone after, none ever intrigued him as much as Anna.
Anna Korlov- a young girl harshly killed in 1958. Anna Dressed in Blood- a ghost no longer reminiscent of Anna Korlov, wrapped in curses and murder and hate, trapped in the house she died in, beside the hundreds of ghosts of those she has killed herself.
When Cas moves in Anna’s town, intent on finding her, stopping her, and moving back out, he gets a surprise. Anna is stronger than him. He doesn’t want to send her where ever it is he sends the rest of them. And he’s the first person Anna Dressed In Blood hasn’t killed the moment he sets foot in her house.

This is the book I have always wanted to read. Kendare Blake creates characters so real that I can picture them walking past me in the store, having a conversation with them. They make the kind of imperfect, teen-logic decisions that teens truly make, rather than fictionalized, polished thoughts that are rare for anyone into today’s world.
One of my favorite parts is how Cas is drawn to Anna. He doesn’t know why, but we can see it in the way he seems to wander into her house with absolutely no regard for his life.
The plot is a mix of reality, and supernatural, and yet it blends so perfectly I have no trouble believing it. Between the plot and the characters, Kendare Blake is like an incredible mix of Cassandra Clare and Maggie Stiefvator, making for a worthy read anytime!
