Summary of this Book...
Welcome to Chester Mill. Population 1152. Located just off Castle Rock, this is a small town with its usual cast of characters. Nothing exciting really happens in Chester Mill until the day the dome suddenly descends to cut them off from civilization. Where did it come from? Why Chester Mill? How can they survive especially in a town where one man seems hell bent on wielding his might and power by taking charge in the worst way possible? So many secrets lurk beneath the dome, and we come to realize just how fickle we are as humans in the grand scheme of things.
This type of Book is good for...
Those who enjoy thrillers, drama, and a hint of sci-fi.
I especially liked...
The cast of characters. Stephen King, again, manages to bring everyday people into the most difficult situations. You SEE yourself as a resident of Chester Mill, and by the end of the book, even you seem to want to beg for the destruction and chaos to be all over (or gasping for breath, whichever comes first)
I didn't like...
The finale as much. It seemed a little too rushed for me, and I was expecting the town's villain to get a death worthy of all the evil he planted throughout his lifetime. It just seemed way too easy for him I think.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Take a break *lol* It is a very heavy book with over a thousand pages.
This Book made me feel...
Slightly unsatisfied, though as mentioned earlier, these are characters and situations that will remain with you long after the last page has been read.
The author of this Book...
Stephen King
I recommend this Book because...
It is a riveting read for at least three-quarters of it, and it leaves you on the edge of your seat, wondering how the survivors will make it out alive in the end...or even if ANYONE will survive. Quite a sad finale actually.
Further Comments...
The sci-fi element to this was noticeable from the get-go, though King does make the usual theories about what could be the cause of the appearance of the dome from 'our' perspective. He claims he started this story way back in the 70s, but abandoned it for his classic masterpiece 'The Stand'. Picking up 'The Dome' in 2007, we see the influences of modern technology filtered throughout the story, making it more realistic and feasible. My only gripe...the ones responsible for the dome in the end. I'm not sure if I wanted to throttle them or groan in disbelief. Still there is a lesson to be learned after you read this. It does make you appreciate the little things in life, and to never ever take things for granted.

P.S: I forsee this being turned into a made-for-T.V.-movie eventually. Too good to pass up.
